* Lock down and my condition *
"I love you and the children dearly. I know you guys are in dire straits, starving, but I can't do anything by sitting here. All I can do is stop eating and drinking so that I can support myself." Let me feel with you ... " 😭😭😭
This was the letter that put the management of Central Jail Karachi(city of Pakistan) in trouble. The prisoner who wrote the letter had gone on a hunger strike. Despite the administration's efforts, it could not end the hunger strike and informed the higher authorities, after which the inquiry into the matter came to a young police officer.
This story was told by a police officer ... According to the police officer ...
When I read the letter, I became restless. He took the file to his house and showed the letter to his wife and she started crying.
I read the prisoner's file, he was serving a prison sentence for robbery. Surprisingly, those whose house was robbed filed a case and did not come to the police station. Everything happened on official complaint and the accused was convicted.
The next day I went to the prisoner's house in Malir(city). His wife and three children lived in a one-room tin-roofed house in Malir Khokhra Par. The courtyard had a kitchen with a stove in one corner and a washroom and toilet with a bucket and bricks behind the sheets in the other corner.
When I asked the prisoner's wife for details, she said that he was driving a donkey. His donkey was shot dead during the bad conditions in Karachi. He looked for a job for several days but could not find a job. The children were starving, the people of the neighborhood were helping but for how long ...
When he got more annoyed, I told him to bring rations from somewhere or I would kill the children. He left quietly and then in the evening came the news that he had been arrested by the police while committing a robbery. He is not a robber, I made him a robber. The woman was crying.
The condition of the house testified to the woman's statement. I left and went to the house where the robbery had taken place. I was blown away when he told me the details.
He said there were women in the house at noon, the man entered the house with a pistol and asked the women to gather to one side. The elderly lady said, "Don't tell anyone. Jewelry and money are in this closet. Take them." But he said I don't want money, I don't want to be rude, so don't make noise and just tell me where the kitchen is, the housewife said they told her the kitchen with surprise and anxiety. The man went to the kitchen, took a sheet from us and collected the rations in the kitchen and left. He also apologized to us on the way.
The housewife said that we were shocked and were looking at each other in silence when suddenly there was a noise outside. When we found out, we found out that a resident of the neighborhood had come out of the house in a suspicious condition with his belongings wrapped in a chador(blanket) and made a noise. The housewife and the men of the house said that the procedure and only the theft of rations made us realize that the person was in need, so we went to the police station against the person and did not file a case against him.
When I called the SHO of the concerned police station, he told me that the people of the neighborhood had arrested him. He also admitted that he had committed robbery and the pistol recovered from him was a fake. When no one came to file a case, we filed the case in the court in the official complaint and the court punished us.
I prepared the inquiry report, as well as the statements of the family members whose house was robbed and sent the details to the higher authorities. The case was re-tried in court, but the man was released on bail within a few days.
When the man was released, I told him not to do such a thing again and tried to give him some money, but he refused to take the money and asked me to pay him somewhere.
The man is now a civilian at a police checkpoint near his home.
How many houses are destroyed by these strikes and lock downs, how many houses are starved and how many robbers are created? Neither the insensitive rulers nor our judicial system can predict this. ”
